Headmaster's Welcome

Headmaster Simon Lockyer welcomes you to the Royal Hospital School and provides a brief introduction to the school's unique ethos.

Take a flight over RHS

There is no better way to experience our extraordinary setting than from above. Not only are we moments from the Stour Estuary, Alton Water sits just the other side of the school meaning we are perfectly placed for sailing and other water sports.

Year 7 Pupils

We asked our current Year 7 pupils to tell us about life in the first year at RHS. We have included both boarders and day pupils from different parts of the country. They recorded their answers in lockdown and it was rather lovely to see they chose to wear their uniform.

The RHS Difference

RHS Parents

"Better versions of their natural selves."

Our parents reflect on why they chose the Royal Hospital School and what they love about the place. We talked to parents of boarders, day pupils and flexi-boarders to give an all-round perspective.

REMOTE LEARNING AT RHS

Learning has been uninterrupted during lockdown. 108 Royal Hospital School (RHS) teachers are teaching our 750 pupils in 38 countries some 28 subjects a week  thanks to the school's remote learning capability.

Sailing Academy at RHS

Discover our unrivaled provision for sailing and stunning location nestled between Alton Water and the River Stour.

Speech Day 2019

This video was created for the 2019 Speech Day and was filmed using pupils going about their day to day activities and lessons to create a pupil’s perspective of life at RHS.

The Music Department

The Music School facilities are outstanding, with a concert hall, recital rooms, practice rooms, recording studio, music technology suite, rock room, live lounge and cathedral-proportioned chapel. Music forms part of the Lower School curriculum and is offered as an academic subject at both GCSE and A Level. Over 400 pupils learn to play at least one instrument and there is an orchestra, 80-strong chapel choir, chamber choir, ceremonial marching band, concert band, big band and numerous ensembles, including many rock and pop groups.

The ARt Department

Every year we exhibit the work of our GCSE and A-level art students in our beautiful Atrium Gallery at RHS. This year our summer show, a celebration of achievement and creativity, cannot take place in our space, but we are delighted to be sharing the work of our pupils with you, in these virtual galleries instead. These shows are the culmination of two years of hard work for our pupils, and showcase the work of every pupil taking art in year 11 and 13. We hope you enjoy them. Please visit both of the shows by clicking on the link.

Design a T-shirt

The Art Department is a hub of creativity and originality, where pupils can experiment in a wide range of media including photography, textiles, pottery, print and sculpture as well as more traditional painting and drawing materials. There are light and airy art and textile studios, with permanent personal studio space for sixth form pupils and a photographic darkroom and Photoshop classroom. The Art and Design Department enjoys an outstanding reputation, with pupils' work being exhibited all year round in the superb exhibition atrium.

Mr. Millington, our Head of Design and Technology, shows you how to make a marble run which you can as large and complicated as your imagination (and your parents) will allow.
