The HALO Trust is an international charity that clears land mines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) in 23 war-torn and post conflict countries and territories. Oliver Gerard-Pearse (Collingwood 2013) is a Survey Manager for HALO, overseeing a countrywide survey in the disputed Nagorno Karabakh Republic. His role is to go into villages, collect information and map out new minefields which will need to be cleared.
On October 6th Oliver will compete in the UltraX Wadi Rum Ultra marathon in Jordan, running 250km over 5 days across the Wadi Rum desert. Raising money for the HALO Nagorno Karabakh Programme despite the fact that few people have heard of it.
The civilians of Karabakh have suffered one of the highest per capita rates of mine and ERW accidents in the world. Additionally, as an unrecognised state, and despite the generosity of a small number of donors, governmental funding is hard to come by. Any donation makes a huge difference to HALO's ability to continue clearing mines here. Every penny donated will be matched by an anonymous donor!
