Maths Fest 2018

Pupils claim top prize at Maths Fest 2018

Two pupils have won first place for their presentation on the 'Birthday Paradox' at the Maths Fest 2018 conference held at Piccadilly Theatre, London.

The event featured talks and workshops by speakers from around the world who linked maths to everyday life. Pupils from each school had the opportunity to enter a competition to present an interesting mathematical concept in under five minutes. Xanthe J and Jack B presented on the 'Birthday Paradox' to a theatre of around 1000 people - their idea explored the chance of two people in the same room sharing the same birthday (you need 23 people to have a 50% chance!). Xanthe and Jack were awarded 1st place by the judging panel for their outstanding presentation.
