Great East Swim closes swimming season after record-breaking year
The swimming pool has seen some great performances this year starting with the Bath Cup back in March. Ten RHS pupils swam at the London Aquatic Centre against some of the toughest school competition in the country. Perhaps inspired by the Olympic heritage of their surroundings, they pushed themselves and each of our teams achieved personal bests in every event.
Both the junior and senior/intermediate interhouse competitions were very noisy and exciting events which saw the juniors break three school records and the senior/intermediate races break another five.
RHS set a new level for participation in the Great East Swim with 49 pupils swimming in every event from 250m up to 10k; even the team swim/run event featured 4 RHS swimmers and 4 members of staff also took the plunge.
Special mentions go to Harry J, Ami J, Harry B-K and Mr Croft who all completed the gruelling 10k swim where Harry put in an impressive time of 2:58:34 to finish 17th overall. In the 1 mile distance we had 13 swimmers with James O finishing 10th overall and Mrs Price, Miss Izod and Mr Hollis representing the staff contingent. Joe F impressively swam in both the 5k event and then the half mile where he finished 1st overall in a very fast time of 9:32.
Clemmie P must be congratulated as the only Year 7 to take part in the half mile. Nick S, Adam S, Tilly A and Emily F stepped up to the 2 mile event and all completed their swims in fast times along with Mr Wynn. Finally Freddie W, Adam W, Ludwig G and Ben S took part in the paired swim/run event which involved four combined swims and runs and finished 9th and 14th overall under the perfect blue skies of the afternoon.
