This year's Christmas Extravaganza at the Royal Hospital School featured the music of its music patron, John Rutter, who opened the state of the art music school in 2008. Alongside his magnificent choral work 'Gloria', which featured the combined forces of the school's Chapel Choir, Holbrook Choral Society and the Reade Brass Ensemble, the programme also featured Rutter's fable set to music, 'Brother Heinrich's Christmas' for choir, narrator and small orchestra.
The Reade Brass Ensemble also had a chance to shine with performances of Gabrieli's 'Kyrie' and an arrangement of' Ding Dong! Merrily on High', which had also received the Rutter treatment. As is customary with RHS Christmas concerts, the evening was compered by a local celebrity, and this year saw Frazer Hines of Emmerdale and Doctor Who fame lead the proceedings.
Attended by over 1,000 enthusiastic audience members, this event really was a celebration of all things Christmas, Royal Hospital School style.
