Big Band Spectacular

Big Band Spectacular at the Royal Hospital School

Saturday 24 February 2018 will see the third annual Big Band extravaganza at the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook. Building on the success of the past two years' sell-out concerts, this event will see three fantastic bands take to the stage before combining for a thrilling finale.

As well as featuring the school's own 18-piece big band, which has performed with the BBC Big Band and members of the Jools Holland band over the past two years, the concert will include performances from the Horn Factory, one of East Anglia's premiere big bands, who are renowned for their fast moving, toe tapping contemporary jazz and swing, and the Big Band of The Queen's Division. Originally named the Minden Band of The Queen's Division after the 1759 Battle of Minden, the musicians are based at RAF Henlow in Bedfordshire. The band is much in demand and has worked across the world including tours to Pakistan, the Falkland Islands, Austria, Russia, India and Germany.

Featuring music from across a wide range of big band genres, the event will also give the pupils from RHS the invaluable experience of performing alongside seasoned professionals from both civilian and military backgrounds. The evening will conclude with the massed bands combining for a performance of the dazzling Chuck Mangione number, Children of Sanchez.

The concert, to be held this Saturday at 7pm in the Assembly Hall of the Royal Hospital School, is free to attend with a retiring collection for the Suffolk Community Foundation and Brass for Africa.

Colourplan Print are kindly sponsoring the event and will be running a raffle with a brilliant hamper giveaway.
