Festival of Suffolk Torch Relay

We gave the Festival of Suffolk Torch Relay a splendid RHS send-off this morning as it continued its 588-mile journey around the county, as part of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Pupils and staff lined the front of school to wave off our torchbearers, Charlie Allison (Year 12) and Deborah Sweeney (Sister-in-Charge), as they travelled in the rickshaw to its next stop. Sister Sweeney was nominated for her tireless work in Suffolk hospitals over many years and more recently for RHS throughout the pandemic; and Charlie Allison, our Charity Representative, was representing our pupil body who have raised thousands of pounds for the Suffolk Community Foundation, who support many important charities in Suffolk.

To add to the festivities, our marching band performed the National Anthem as the School and Union flags were raised.

This event also marks the beginning of the School’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. These include an in-school celebration next Friday 27 May, involving an old-fashioned sports day and celebration picnic, a fabulous art installation of a willow crown, and our Festival of the Sea public event over the weekend of 11/12 June.
