Report by Nick Platt, Director of Sports 11/09/2023
With the sun blazing down it was great to get our block hockey and rugby seasons up and running.
The hockey club enjoyed a very encouraging weekend with some good contests against Framlingham. Bella M and Martha H had particularly strong games for the 1st XI, although Fram went on to win the match, after much initial pressure by RHS. There was particular success at U14 level with both the A and B teams recording impressive wins, including a brace of goals for Bea N in the A’s 3-1 victory. There was also a good 2-0 win for the U15B, with Michele R setting a high standard with her work rate. The U13A enjoyed a successful tournament at Orwell Park, recording 3 wins, a draw and 2 losses. Jess B was outstanding in goal as was Abbie W in defence.
The rugby club had a challenging day against Norwich, notably at the senior end, although Obi I and Tom R played well in the 1st team’s loss. The U16A went down, but showed real spirit in the final third which highlights their character as a team. However, at the younger age groups there were many games which ebbed and flowed. Joel M-B had a strong game for the U15A in their narrow loss. The U14A, following in the footsteps of the girls’ hockey side, flew the flag as the standout boys’ team, winning 42-0 – a resounding success, which included a hat-trick for Theo D. Tim P and Paul S were mentioned for their performances at U13 level. It was also great to have the Year 7 boys enjoying their first outings in an RHS shirt. They played well and demonstrated their potential for the future.
I would also like to congratulate Sonny and Joel for their impressive 2nd place in the Mersea ‘Round the Island’ race. No mean feat.
My thanks to the grounds team for their preparation of the playing surfaces and to catering for accommodating the various early mess times, not to mention the staff coaching and officiating the various teams.
Congratulations to our first ‘Team of The Week’ – which goes to the U14A girls’ hockey team for their 3-1 win against a very formidable Fram side.
