Annual Sports Dinner 2022

Former pupil, Jonathon Ilori, ex- international athlete and two-time national title-winning triple jumper joined us as our Guest of Honour for our annual sports dinner. Not only did he present our awards, discuss his career and future aspirations, but he also held an Athletics Masterclass for our pupils.

Jonathon most recently placed 4th at the Olympic Trials held at the Muller British Championships but has since retired from athletics to focus on rugby and his company Right Track, created with likeminded experts who provide first-hand experience of the American college recruitment process for athletes; he attended University of Missouri-Columbia himself.

Jonathon reflected on his time at RHS and how the school enabled and accommodated his athletic career both in a sporting and academic sense. Unfortunately, after graduating from university Jonathon dislocated his shoulder at which time, he began to discuss ways of helping young athletes through university, finally founding Right Track and subsequently his passion for mentoring.

Former teachers Paul Hardman and Clive Rennison were also in attendance at the dinner. After a three-course meal and plenty of conversation, the awards were presented with the winners as follows:

Golf - Freddie B

Paddling – Jacob W

Football – Zeke L

Swimming – Olivia G

XCO – Theo G

Horse Riding – Maisy H

A particularly special moment during the evening was when Jonathon presented his younger sister Rachael with the Athletics Award. Well done to all those winners and what a great year it has been for sport at RHS.
