Eco committee pick up plastic in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Pupils from the Eco Committee volunteered their time to clear plastic from a woodland in Butley Low Corner near Wickham Market.

As part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB working party, they were tasked with releasing and collecting the plastic collars from trees that originally protected them in the sapling stage. The trees have successfully grown and but the plastic littered the beautiful forest.

Our pupils from Years 7-10 worked hard gathering three large bags of plastic tubing, then bundled it all up so that the landowner could easily collect it.

Teacher of Chemistry, Dr Ryan, who coordinated the project commented, "Although it was hard work everyone involved enjoyed the experience; the fresh air and the feeling that they have done something to help protect their local environment."
