Pirates of Penzance

The most fabulous operatic performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ wowed its audience last weekend.

This comic opera provided our top vocal talent at RHS to perform some key solo roles, with rousing choruses lustily sung by the combined choirs of the Holbrook Choral Society and the RHS Chapel and Chamber Choirs.

Oli B, who played Frederic (the Pirate Apprentice) and Mathilda K who played Mable (one of Major-General Stanley’s Daughters) reported on their experience of performing in this opera;

“We began rehearsals last October and it was not easy to start with as we kept laughing too much! However, the more we rehearsed the more we enjoyed it, and as we started to understand our characters properly that’s where it got really fun - ;finding little nuances we could put into the way we played the characters. Five months on bought us to performance day; both of us can honestly say that it was one of the best performance opportunities we’ve had at RHS and will be one of our highlights to our time here at the school.”
