New Sailing Instructors

We are delighted to introduce our new sailing staff, Mr Line (Sailing Instructor) and Mr Hickman (Assistant Director of Sailing) who have joined us this academic year. They are both already making a positive impact in our sailing academy, and we are excited to see how they continue to help our pupils progress throughout the season.

Connor Line – Sailing Instructor

Mr Line has been a dinghy instructor since 2019 and was previously instructing at East Anglian Sea School for 3 years helping deliver their RYA dinghy sailing courses. He is passionate about helping young sailors develop their skills and improve, whether it be complete beginners learning to sail or sailors at the top of their game.

He has an extensive background in the Cadet class having sailed it from a young age and competed at an international level for over 5 years. This includes winning qualifiers at national level as well as going to two World Championships. He qualified for two Cadet World Championships in Bueno Aires, Argentina in 2016 and Bodstedt, Germany in 2018, coming 10th overall. Along with this, Mr Line has returned to the Cadet class and coaches some of the racers coming up within the class.

Since outgrowing the Cadet, Mr Line has been sailing Waszps and RS200s, primarily on the East Coast. He is a recent convert to foiling but has been getting the hours in and hopes to get involved racing within the class next year.

Chris Hickman – Assistant Director of Sailing

Mr Hickman has been a Senior Instructor since 2016, while working in various parts of the world. Instructing sailing since 2015, keeping his coaching styles differentiated and creative to support interesting and fun sessions for all. He is enthusiastic in promoting sailing and specialises in introducing sailors to the wide fleet of boats RHS has to offer.

Mr Hickman joined RHS in December 2022 having spent the last 5 years in the United Arab Emirates. He was working closely with club sailors to help promote and develop the racing pathway, to develop sailors into the UAE national sailing team. A big achievement of his was being part of the UAE coaching team and with ‘people of determination.’ In 2019 he was given the opportunity to lead and take four sailors to the Special Olympic Games in which his athletes walked away with four gold medals.

Mr Hickman is a strong believer in giving everyone the opportunity to sail - helping every sailor develop the skills that can integrate into the racing pathway or develop them into competent independent sailors.
