Kickboxing

Report by Mr Coleman, Head of English as an Additional Language

A few of our pupils participated in the NAK tournament (National Association of Kickboxing) held at the Blackbelt Academy in Norwich over the weekend. We were the only school represented, as all the other competitors were from martial arts clubs across the East of England, including Stepping Stones - the Muay Thai School that visits us annually.

Our three competitors took part in different disciplines. Both Eli A and Theo D had one two-round kickboxing bout each, which was scored by three judges. Eli emerged victorious after forcing his opponent to take a standing count, which was the only one of the day. Theo fought valiantly against a highly skilled older opponent and gained valuable experience from the match.

Henry M competed in K1, a kickboxing-based discipline that incorporates leg kicks and knees. Despite facing an older and heavier opponent, Henry displayed superb skill and control, winning the bout on points.

In the boxing category, Eli won two elimination bouts, one of which was against Theo, earning him a place in the final against a talented boxer from Ipswich Kickboxing Academy. In a closely contested and dynamic match, Eli emerged victorious on a split decision. He showed immense bravery by constantly pressing forward against an opponent with a significantly longer reach.

They were a superb advert for the school.
