This summer, Etor (Y13) had an incredible opportunity to attend the Blackett Lab Family’s 3-day physics enrichment programme at Imperial College London.
Designed to support and inspire young Black students with an interest in physics, the programme gave Etor the chance to explore university-level physics, hear from leading researchers and gain an insight into careers within the field.
One of the highlights was exploring particle physics and neutrinos – learning how these fascinating particles can help scientists understand distant stars and galaxies.
Etor also had the opportunity to work in research-standard physics laboratories, carrying out experiments similar to those students may encounter at university.
But perhaps the biggest highlight was a visit to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), where he toured a high-security facility, saw some of the world’s most advanced scientific equipment and learned about incredibly precise atomic clocks. He even got to build and launch a water rocket!
Reflecting on the experience, Etor described it as “eye-opening” and “mind-blowing”, saying the programme gave him a wealth of knowledge and a greater awareness of the opportunities available within physics.
We’re very proud of Etor for embracing this opportunity and sharing his experience.
