Generous bursaries

Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary - bursary available to support your child’s education

If you have served with the Royal Navy, Royal Marines or Royal Fleet Auxiliary you could be entitled to financial support to provide your children with an outstanding education at the Royal Hospital School.

Generous bursaries are available to seafaring families so your children can benefit from the full and broad education enriched by a unique naval heritage on offer at the Royal Hospital School.

Founded in 1712 in Greenwich but located in 200 acres of Suffolk countryside overlooking the Rover Stour since 1933, the Royal Hospital School is proud of its historic links with the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Now recognised as one of the country’s leading independent day and boarding schools, its historic links with Greenwich Hospital means that the school is able to offer bursaries covering up to 95 per cent of its fees for eligible applicants.

Applications are now open for bursaries for children to start at the Royal Hospital School from September 2023.

We will be holding two information drop-in events in Portsmouth in November for parents of children who may be eligible for assistance to find out more information ahead of the closing date for applications.

Serving Royal Navy personnel can meet the school admissions team at the Leach Building, Whale Island between 12:00-14:00 on Thursday 3 November 2022.

After that the admissions team will set up at The Royal Maritime Club, Queen Street, Portsea, from 15:00-20:00, also on Thursday 3 November 2022, to discuss opportunities that may be available to parents and their children.

We generally accept bursary applications for boarding places from the children of seafaring families whose parents have served in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, or Royal Fleet Auxiliary for a minimum of three years. They may be currently serving or retired.
