Festival of the Sea

What a wonderful ‘Festival of the Sea’ we experienced this weekend, with our stunning river campus bathed in glorious sunshine throughout. Thank you to all of you who attended or contributed to its success in any way as we welcomed over 3000 people to enjoy a range of family-friendly activities. This included the rare opportunity to witness the skills of the Royal Navy Parachute and Royal Marines display teams, a musical showcase from the Royal Marines School of Music Band and our School Band and Corps of Drums, along with nautical stalls and activities, plus a sailing regatta between the Royal Navy and our school sailing team.

Picnics and a nautical ball were enjoyed throughout the sun-filled weekend by families from across the county and region, with some coming from as far as Devon and Yorkshire to enjoy the events. The weekend closed with a Thanksgiving Service, with music by the Royal Marines School of Music Brass Quintet, the Royal Hospital School Chapel Choir, along with members of the Holbrook Choral Society and local church choirs. VIP guests included the Countess of Euston, the High Sheriff of Suffolk, the Lord Bishop of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich and other dignitaries.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils, who performed throughout the weekend in so many guises, from playing in the School Band, performing in the Field Gun display and Sunset Ceremony to singing in the Choir, serving at the ball and directing traffic.

A full review, video and photo gallery will be shared in due course, but here are some highlights for now:
