Report by Mrs Price, Assistant Head of Sixth Form and Teacher of Psychology
Year 12 were given egg babies to protect and look after for a week, some took this responsibility more seriously than others - but we enjoyed seeing what they got up to. This is the first year we used polystyrene babies over real eggs - and perhaps this is the reason why some failed to form attachment to their egg babies.
John Bowlby, British psychologist believes that forming an attachment has survival because it keeps the child nearby. If a parent bonds with their child, they will protect them and care for them. Bowlby says attachment is an evolutionary mechanism that has been naturally selected. By this he means that those who are well cared for will survive, grow up, have children of their own, and care for them, so they have children and so on-across the generations.
