Could you qualify for a bursary to cover your child’s education at the Royal Hospital School?

If you have served or are serving in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines or Royal Fleet Auxiliary you could be eligible for a generous bursary to enable you to send your child to the Royal Hospital School.

Generally, a parent of a child eligible for a bursary will have served for a minimum of three years and will either be serving today or retired.

Our bursaries are means-tested to support those in need and could cover up to 95 per cent of the school fees.

There are some exceptions for those families who have exceptional charitable need, or who currently have children in the school. They are encouraged to make an application for one of the bursaries too.

Entry is normally at Year 7 (11+ years) but applications for other year groups and into the Sixth Form can also be considered.

Founded in 1712 in Greenwich but located in 200 acres of Suffolk countryside overlooking the Rover Stour since 1933, the Royal Hospital School is proud of its historic links with the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Applications are now open for bursaries for children to start at the Royal Hospital School from September 2023.

We will be holding two information drop-in events in Portsmouth in November for parents of children who may be eligible for assistance to find out more information ahead of the closing date for applications.

These events would also be useful for those serving personnel who are eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) which they could use to fund places at the Royal Hospital School.

Serving Royal Navy personnel can meet the school admissions team at the Leach Building, Whale Island between 12:00-14:00 on Thursday 3 November 2022.

After that the admissions team will set up at The Royal Maritime Club, Queen Street, Portsea, from 15:00-20:00, also on Thursday 3 November 2022, to discuss opportunities that may be available to parents and their children.
