Devizes to Westminster

Pupils Toby C, Grace G, Theo G and Jacob W took part in the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race. This race takes place over a weekend and is the longest non-stop canoe race in the world, starting in Wiltshire and ending in Westminster.

Toby C and Jacob W were 6th after the first day and pulled back a further place on the second day to finish a remarkable 5th overall. Grace G and Theo G finished in an astounding 14th place, which was also the 2nd placed mixed crew. Given the brevity of the preparation period, these rank as some of the best results achieved by RHS in the 27 years of the school entering this most remarkable event; it’s known as ‘the canoeist’s Everest’, and justifiably so.

Huge thanks to Les Thompson for his coaching and management of the pupils' teams.

Theo G commented, “The whole experience was absolutely fantastic, from the training to the race itself. I can’t think of a better group of people to have done it with and the sense of comradery among all the participants was just phenomenal. Not to mention we got fantastic weather too, and although it was a shame that the race was shortened it is still something that will stay with us for a very long time. And of course, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without our fabulous coaches, Mr T and Billy, along with our superb support crew.”
