Cricket report given in the final assembly
Junior cricket (U12-U13)
The junior boys have had a successful season; the U12 boys finished 3rd in the County Cup. William C has scored over 300 runs this year and taken 10 wickets for the Junior 1st XI, and he was well supported by Felix F, who scored over 250 runs and also took 14 wickets.
The junior girls have gone from strength to strength this year, finishing 3rd in the County Cup Competition. Jess B is the leading run-scorer this season, averaging 40 with the bat, and Skye F is the top wicket-taker with 14 wickets. Grace J has also been a consistent performer with both the ball and the bat and is a good future prospect.
(U14-U15)
The U14 boys are a very promising team, and they came 2nd in the County Cup Competition. Special mention should go to Tait F and Stanley K, who have both played in the 1st XI this season. Tait scored his maiden century against Norwich, which meant that he scored nearly 400 runs this year. He is also the top wicket-taker with 15 wickets. Vyom R has been a useful addition to the side and has taken 10 wickets.
The U15 boys have had a tough season, but Mackenzie P has stood up and been the most consistent batter in a team that has found runs hard to come by. His top score of 83 against Woodbridge was the highlight. Hugo W is the top wicket-taker with 12 wickets.
The U14 girls are probably the most successful team in the school this year. Elise L is the leading run scorer and wicket-taker in the team and has also represented the U15 girls. Highlights were the wins against Ipswich, Framlingham and Gresham’s.
The U15 girls have done fantastically well this season, considering they lost two of their players to the Girls 1st XI for the majority of their matches. Henrietta S and Georgia S have both bowled well, with Georgia being the first pupil in the school this year to take 5 wickets in a match, taking 5 for 18 against a very strong Framlingham side.
Senior Cricket (1st -3rd XI):
Our 1st XI Boys’ cricket team progressed to the regional round of the National T20 Competition, beating Culford, Framlingham and Ipswich along the way. The win against Ipswich in the County Final was a particular highlight. Charlie A has been the outstanding performer with the bat, scoring over 700 runs this season, including four scores over fifty and two hundreds. Cameron P has been the best performer with the ball this year, and he has taken 23 wickets with best figures of 5-43 against Norwich School and a hattrick against Brentwood.
The 2nd XI have finished the season in fine form, with close wins against Ipswich and Norwich School; James P and George B have been the pick of the batters, and Oli C is the top wicket-taker.
The 3rd XI started strongly under Mr Gould’s expert guidance and beat a strong Gresham’s side. Unfortunately, The Leys defeated them in their final match.
The 1st XI Girls’ cricket team have also had a good season and had some outstanding wins, with the standout performance being their win over The Leys, where a fantastic batting partnership from the Hunter sisters, putting on 100 runs together, saw them win by 8 wickets. Martha H is the team's top run-scorer and wicket-taker this year, which is an outstanding effort for someone still in Year 10.
We would like to thank all pupils who have represented the school this year, particularly those who balanced representing the school with sitting their public examinations. We would also like to thank the staff that take the teams, as it is a big commitment and without their hard work playing fixtures would not be possible.
