Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

An abundance of Chinese New Year celebrations took place this weekend. Our catering team put on a wonderful Chinese New Year spread and our Hawke House boarders welcomed other pupils from Hong Kong and China, including Bailey W, Year 7 from Blake House, to enjoy a celebration dinner. Our EAL Department and International Admissions Registrar also took our boarders from China and Hong Kong out to enjoy a traditional Chinese buffet in Ipswich.  Pupils also prepared a Chinese dinner and made decorations with Nicky Xu, our new nurse in the Health Centre. They created Chinese banners and paper lantern decorations as well as making dumplings and traditional hotpot to celebrate this very special day.  Daniel Pan in Year 12 commented on the importance of Chinese New Year:  “I will say that the Chinese Spring Festival is the biggest festival of the year in China. In my opinion, the Spring Festival has a profound meaning to every Chinese and ethnic Chinese person. Many people look forward to the Spring Festival, as it is a reunion with their families, because relatives who work far away will come back to them during this time, which is like an excuse for everyone to reunite. Spending time with family during Chinese New Year is also a chance for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves after a year of hard work.”
