Global Awareness and Leadership
Our Year 8 are in the full swing of their Young Leaders qualification and recently they have been learning about Chinese culture. Three of our Chinese sixth form pupils spoke confidently about Chinese festivals, food and the differences between school life here and in China. The Year 8s were particularly interested in the tradition of giving money (in red envelopes or ‘red pockets’) during Chinese New Year and were astounded by the length of the school day in China.
With over 30 different countries represented at RHS and an increasingly interconnected world, developing global awareness and global citizenship among our pupils is a priority. As well as giving our international pupils an opportunity to share their culture with younger pupils, this was a valuable opportunity for Year 8 to understand the perspective of a pupil studying abroad.
Year 8 will continue their Young Leaders qualification training throughout this academic year and their learning will culminate in a Young Leaders festival during which they will pass on their knowledge to local Year 5s.
