Careers Education Highlights
RHS pupils enjoyed a dynamic range of careers education activities at the start of the month, each aimed at expanding their horizons and providing hands-on experiences across varied career paths.
Starting with Green Careers Week, all pupils received daily resources on the importance of sustainable careers. Each day introduced new themes, from exploring high-demand green skills to future-focused roles like Climate Data Analysts and Eco-Innovators. Pupils engaged with interactive tools, videos, and alumni stories, discovering how their skills and passions could align with green career paths. As Green Careers Week concluded, pupils gained insight into starting their journeys toward meaningful, eco-conscious careers.
Year 10 pupils visited the Future Skills Fair at Suffolk New College. This event brought together a variety of businesses and sector leaders to inspire 14-to-16-year-olds about various career options. The fair featured interactive workshops, engaging presentations, and hands-on activities across key employment sectors relevant to our region.
Dylan D shared, "There was so much to explore! From VR simulations of radiation therapy machines to sitting in an army vehicle and trying a construction truck simulator, it was interactive and fun – I even experienced what it was like to be handcuffed by the Police! The experience really helped me think about my future career path and was a great learning experience.” This trip gave pupils a hands-on look at future possibilities in various sectors, inspiring new ideas about career planning.
Pupils also attended a presentation and Q&A with Stewart, our Army Liaison Officer, who shared valuable information on army scholarships and bursaries, highlighting pathways to leadership and career opportunities in the armed forces. Pupils left with a stronger
understanding of financial support options available for those considering military careers.
To wrap up, the Sixth Form Apprenticeship Club held a focused session covering essential information on Level 4, 5, and 6 apprenticeships. This club aims to prepare pupils with everything they need to apply confidently and successfully, with practical guidance on writing applications, interview preparation, and navigating assessment centers.
There’s lots to look forward to in careers education for the rest of this term, including one-to-one careers interviews for Year 11, where pupils will explore individual goals and pathways, as well as our upcoming mock interviews for Years 12 and 13.
