During Black History Month, our Art Department invited the RHS Black community to sit for portrait photographs, inspired by Cephas William's moving installation 'A Portrait of Black Britain'.

Cephas Williams reminds us that Black History Month is not the endpoint but the beginning of important conversations. In alignment with Cephas Williams' vision for ongoing discussions, recognition and celebration, our Art Department intentionally chose to wait until after October to unveil the portraits - transforming this initiative into a continuous celebration of our Black communities.

Mrs Harriet Barber, Head of Art, comments "The idea was to capture the vibrancy and beauty of the Black community at RHS, and celebrating the future of Black Britain. Pupils, Niece and Ovie have done an amazing job taking the shots. The display is a wonderful, vibrant, heart-warming celebration of our Black community. Over 30 pupils and staff have had their portraits taken and we hope more members of our Black community will come and be photographed!"
