Athletics Update

As the athletics season comes to a close, we look back with immense pride at the incredible accomplishments of our school's talented athletes. Throughout the season, a phenomenal number of pupils have represented us with great determination, setting high standards for next year.  

The season began with the highly anticipated English Schools Track and Field Cup Suffolk round, where our school proudly fielded four formidable teams: Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Inter Boys and Inter Girls. The event, held at Bury St Edmunds Athletics Centre, provided the perfect stage for a day filled with awe-inspiring performances and fierce competition. 

Undeterred by the challenging opposition, our teams displayed sheer resilience and unwavering commitment. They embraced the spirit of healthy competition, pushing their limits and showcasing their exceptional skills across various disciplines. The outcomes of their remarkable efforts were as follows: 

•Junior Boys: 6th place  

•Junior Girls: 2nd place  

•Intermediate Boys: 2nd place  

•Intermediate Girls: 3rd place  

Lifted by this early success, a group of five exceptional RHS pupils (Femi, Tobi, Sean, Danella and Josh) went to the fiercely competitive county finals. It was a fantastic day, which consisted of Daniella's exceptional talent getting her a 1st place in shot put and is currently representing Suffolk at the national finals. While Tobi's relentless dedication earned him an impressive 3rd place in the U17 discus and a stunning 1st place in the U17 shot put. However, it was Josh who truly stole the limelight, exhibiting unrivalled versatility and athleticism. He clinched three medals, securing 2nd place in both the U20 long jump and U20 100m events, and soaring to an incredible 1st place in the U20 high jump. 

After a 3rd place finish in the Suffolk finals, the inter girls qualified for the regional finals in Essex. The team had a great day and emerged as the East Relay Champions, proudly claiming an impressive 7th place overall. Their achievements stand as a resounding testament to their dedication, relentless hard work and exceptional talent.
