Assessment Centre Day

Assessment Centre Day

Year 13 Recruitment Assessment Centre Day

On Monday some of our Year 13s had the opportunity to develop their employability skills and experience real recruitment techniques used by employers, universities and apprenticeship providers.

Delivered by the award-winning UGrad+, the day was interactive and insightful. In the morning the focus was on personality types, using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to understand how we work best. It is not uncommon for employers to use personality insights to select new talent and identify future potential. This is an effective selection process that gives an organisation a better way to make informed hiring decisions, pinpointing the best candidates based on specific job requirements. Dan Cocksedge from UGrad+ is a Myers-Briggs practitioner, so pupils had some expert guidance. This half of the session also included game-based assessments along with energiser activities, all building confidence, knowledge and skills.

In the afternoon pupils were given the chance to experience some psychometric testing using real life tests from the recruitment groups Sanctuary and Seven. The reaction to verbal and numerical reasoning was interesting and sparked some lively debate. Linh Pook, a recruiter at UGrad+, then took over and the focus went to interview skills, exploring the different types of interviews, how to prepare and what questions to expect. Pupils were able to use the STAR method to answer competency-based questions and there was time for some short mock interviews.

A brilliant day and fantastic opportunity to develop some of the essential soft skills needed for the world of work.
