Thameside 2

Devizes to Westminster squad impressive on the Thames this weekend

All eight crews in the Devizes to Westminster squad gave superb performances in the 18 mile kayaking sprint, Thameside 2, last weekend in challenging conditions with high water flows and torrential rain.

Unfortunately, Natasha Scott and Hannah Dixon were involved in a collision with another crew on the penultimate portage causing them to miss the RHS girls' record by a few minutes and Cedric Hoskyns-Abrahall and Tom Joice missed the Open Canadian Canoe record by 4 minutes after being swamped by big waves on the mass start. Seb G and Ben W broke the previous best time for an RHS crew by a minute and our top performance of the day came from Freddie Braybrooke and Richard Vallance breaking the old record by over 10 minutes and finishing in 10th place in a field of over 40 junior crews.

Prospects are looking good for this year's Devizes to Westminster over the Easter Weekend.
