Sailors compete around the world in a busy summer of sailing

During the summer holidays, many RHS sailors were competing around the world. Tom J travelled to Denmark to take part in the Youth Laser Radial Championships and, after a week of racing, he finished 41st out of the top 80 Radial sailors in Europe.

Toby and Josie R travelled a little further afield to this year’s RS Tera World Championships at Pine Lake Marina in South Africa. Toby produced some great results in the Sport Fleet to finish 7th and his sister Josie came through some tough races to finish as top UK girl and 13th in the Pro Fleet.

Back in the UK, a brilliant performance by James O meant that he missed out on the Tera Nationals Championship title by just 5 points.

On the first weekend of term, Orwell Park and Ipswich High School for Girls joined us at Alton Water for the first Team Racing Regatta of the year. After two round robins of 20 races, and some tough competition between the five teams involved, the RHS Junior 1st VI came out on top, beating the RHS 2nd VI by just two points.

Last weekend we welcomed West Hill Park prep school, from Hampshire, for a training clinic in the morning and an exciting regatta with the RHS junior squad in the afternoon.

Dan P and Arthur B spent the weekend at the RYA Transitional Squad trials which also involved a Bart’s Bash ‘fun race’ involving 200 boats, including an RS400 sailed by Sir Ben Ainslie. The boys came an amazing 3rd place, beating Sir Ben and coming ahead of all the other Transitional Squad hopefuls!
