Snowy Sevenoaks course for cross country competition
On Saturday 14 January, the RHS Cross Country runners competed at the annual Knole Run in Sevenoaks, one of the highlights of the race season. Attended by independent schools from all over England with highly competitive fields, this is a great opportunity for RHS pupils to race in a beautiful location and against quality opposition. The races this year were no different, save for a blanket of snow over the course which added to the challenge and spectacle.
The highlight of the day was a marvellous 11th place for Katie C (Year 9) who ran exceptionally well to produce the best finish by an RHS pupil in many years. Given that she was racing against athletes who were significantly older this was a fine achievement in itself, but she was also only two minutes behind the winner who, as a member of the GB cross country team, set a blistering pace. Katie has also qualified to represent Suffolk at the upcoming Anglian Schools’ Cross Country Championships, and is in line for a place at the English Schools’ national event in March.
Many congratulations to Katie and we wish her the very best for the remainder of the race season.
