National Schools’ Kayaking and Canoeing Championships
Whilst the rest of the school slumbered last Sunday morning, the RHS kayak squad were on the road at 06:30 battling through ‘Storm Angus’ to take part in the National Schools' Kayaking and Canoeing Championships on the River Thames at Reading.
The event comprised of the 500m sprints, a knockout series of 200m sprints and a 20km marathon - a very tough day, with the best of the country's junior paddlers on the water.
The RHS team were near the top of the table, coming a very creditable 5th, with Freddie Braybrooke and Richard Vallance 10th out of the 40+ crews. Heavily contributing to that great result were the points earned by our C2 crew of Tom Joice and Sam Cantelo who won the Open Canadian Canoe Class Marathon race.
