International spellers through to the finals of 2017 Spelling Bee
We sent our best international spellers to this year's Spelling Bee at King's Ely to compete against pupils at King's Ely, Framlingham, Ipswich, Felsted and Gresham's in the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories.
After a quick quiz, there was a singing lesson in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral and a treasure hunt around the cathedral. After lunch, the main competition began as each pupil was given a minute to spell as many words as possible correctly.
The top 6 spellers in each category went through to the final. For RHS this was Teresa S (Beginner), Torres C and Nokie S (Intermediate) and Tracy W (Advanced). Tracy W was a top performer and managed 15 correct words in 60 seconds including “harass”, “acrimonious” and “anaesthetic” and Nokie came second in the intermediate category winning a medal and £20 Amazon voucher. The RHS spellers narrowly missed out on the win but were all within two words of the winners.
