WELLBEING AT RHS

"Wellbeing at RHS is more than just helping a young person find a solution to their problem, it’s about encouraging and supporting them to develop an individual set of skills to look after their wellbeing throughout their school years and beyond."
Zoë King, Deputy Head (Pastoral)

Our goal is to help pupils build lifelong wellbeing by:

  • Teaching self-care strategies.
  • Monitoring wellbeing through pastoral systems.
  • Providing personalised support, including specialist services.
  • Guiding parents on supporting their children.

WELLBEING

PILLARS

We recognise the importance of pupil wellbeing across the following five areas:

Academic

In the first term, weekly PSHE lessons help pupils explore important wellbeing topics like sleep, meditation, diet, exercise, and mental health. Tutors, Heads of Year, and house staff closely support and monitor each pupil, offering care and early help whenever needed.

Emotional

Our caring pastoral team, including house staff, tutors, the chaplain, peer counsellors, and Health Centre staff, is here to support every pupil’s wellbeing. Those needing extra support receive personalised Care Plans. Pupils also contribute to RHS Wellbeing, a friendly, advice-filled magazine.

Emotional Wellbeing Pillar

Physical

Our Health Centre supports both the physical and mental wellbeing of our pupils. Pupils also benefit from daily sports activities to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Physical wellbeing pillar

Social

We love bringing everyone together with fun social events and wellbeing activities. We also raise awareness on important issues and encourage pupils to get involved in groups like the School Council and Diversity and Food Committees, helping build friendship, inclusion, and a sense of belonging.

Social wellbeing pillar

Spiritual

We’re lucky to have a caring on-site chaplain who supports pupils through Religious Studies, chapel services, and regular house visits. Our chapel is a welcoming, reflective space that respects and embraces all faiths and beliefs.

HEALTH CENTRE

Medical Care

Each house has a dedicated Matron responsible for the day-to-day health and wellbeing of its pupils.

In addition, the school operates a fully equipped Health Centre staffed by qualified nurses, a physiotherapist, and counsellors.

Full and weekly boarders (where requested by parents) are registered with the school doctor, who holds regular surgeries. Both male and female doctors are available.

Three-night boarders and day pupils should remain registered with their own family GPs. However, in the event of illness, they will be cared for in the Health Centre until they can be collected by their parents.

Dental Care

The school is proud to have its own dental surgery, offering a high standard of dental care.

A full range of treatments is available, including orthodontics, through the NHS (subject to eligibility) or privately.

Treatment is provided by:

  • Mr David Buchanan, BDS, LCS, RCS (Eng) 1985, GDC No. 59942

  • Miss Karen Vale, RDN, AInstLM, GDC No. 123587
