NELSON

YEAR 13 | BOARDING & DAY | CO-ED

Nelson House serves as an important bridge between school life and the world beyond RHS. We offer study space for day pupils, and our boarding facilities provide students with individual rooms in our accommodation wings, which offer a quiet and dedicated study space for use during the day and evening. In the evenings, boarders have access to the library and can seek assistance from knowledgeable duty tutors who support them through their pivotal final A‑level year.

Nelson House also fosters an essential social aspect, bringing all Year 13 pupils together in a mixed environment for their final year. This setting allows students to learn how to live harmoniously with others in a safe and structured atmosphere, effectively preparing them for the challenges of living with new people after they leave school.

Daily Life in the House
A typical day in Nelson House is structured to balance focused study and social interaction. During the day, pupils benefit from quiet study periods in Nelson House, ensuring they have the time and space to concentrate on their academic work. After school and evening prep, the atmosphere shifts to a more relaxed and communal setting where pupils come together to unwind and socialise. They can enjoy the various amenities of the house, such as the large social day room, cinema room, and the communal kitchen, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among the students. This blend of structured study time and social activities helps pupils develop both academically and socially, preparing them for life beyond school.

Weekend Routines
A typical weekend in Nelson House is filled with a variety of activities and opportunities for relaxation. Team sporting commitments, social sports outside, or even a run around our fantastic grounds keep pupils active and engaged. On some Saturday evenings, The Nelson Arm social club opens, providing an informal opportunity to socialise. Sundays offer a more leisurely pace, allowing for a later start to the day, which leads to a full morning brunch in the Dining Hall. Pupils then have the freedom to rest, relax, study, exercise, take some time to go into town, or participate in the various trips and activities regularly organised by the school. This balanced approach ensures that pupils can recharge and enjoy their weekends while still having the opportunity to engage in enriching experiences.
