Howe House provides boarding for around 60 girls from across the globe and is their home in the school, where they can come to relax, recharge and regroup with their extended family. Known for its diversity and sociability, Howe provides a community girls can draw on and be supported by, where each individual is vauled, respected and cared for.

Howe House is warm, cheerful and relaxed, offering pupils a homely environment where they can unwind and enjoy a range of comforting and creative activities.
Evenings in Howe are centred around relaxation and fun, with much-loved events such as pamper evenings, movie nights and ice cream nights creating a calm and enjoyable end to the day. Pupils also enjoy craft sessions and other hands-on activities that encourage creativity, conversation and a strong sense of togetherness.
Weekends offer an exciting mix of activities both locally and further afield. Alongside regular shopping trips to Cambridge, Colchester or Westfield, pupils can look forward to visits to the West End and thrilling days at Thorpe Park. Cinema trips, go-karting and ice skating also add to the variety, ensuring there is always something memorable and enjoyable on the calendar.
Howe House continues to foster a friendly, inclusive and supportive atmosphere, encouraging every pupil to relax, get involved and make the most of each opportunity within the vibrant RHS community.
MEET HOWE HOUSE STAFF
Jude Marvel - Houseparent
Her life as one might expect from a geographer, has taken her on a journey across Great Britain. She grew up in Sussex before moving to Newcastle to study Geography, followed by a Master's in Land Economy at Aberdeen. She then went on to work as a surveyor in London, Glasgow and Leeds. In 2002 she began her teaching career after gaining my PGCE at the University of Oxford. She joined Royal Hospital School as Housemistress in 2000.
Vanessa Johnstone - Matron
Vanessa joined Howe as a Matron in 2023 following a wide ranging career including spells in the Navy and a dental nurse and training to become a fully qualifed nurse bringing up 5 children, two of whom were pupils at the school. Always on hand with a listening ear, some sound advice and if all else fails some homemade cake, crumble or scones, she is very much the centew of life is Howe
Tereza Shopova - Assisant Houseparent
Miss Shopova has been assistant houseparent for over five years. Born in Bulgaria, raised in Spain before settling in England, she understands deeply what is means to make a boarding house feel like a true home away from home. As Head of Spanish, Miss Shopova is dedicated to delivering excellence in the classroom and to help enrich pupils' cultural awareness. In her free time, she enjoys nothing more than heading out for a morning run, a bike ride or a long walk with her two beloved dogs, Enzo and Plok.
