From assemblies, lectures and exams, to performances, workshops and events, the Assembly Hall is the heart of the school, and has undergone a complete transformation, opened in October 2025. Featuring full redecoration, a new retractable seating system for 800 people, and a redesigned stage with a proscenium arch and new stage flooring to create a formal, theatrical environment. Enhanced AV capabilities, improved storage, and installation of under-stage dressing room facilities will further elevate this iconic space.  

The upgrades have made the hall more comfortable, functional, and accessible, and provided an optimised setting for exams, as well as providing an inspiring venue for the exploration of stagecraft, performance techniques, and digital set design in drama lessons. 

Sixth Form Centre 

Opened in September 2025, the Sixth Form Centre is designed to offer a blend of social and digitally enabled workspaces, creating a multifunctional, modern environment for our Year 12 and 13 pupils. The space features outdoor seating in the summer, a serving area, and a hot drinks machine, providing a comfortable and dynamic area for both collaboration and independent study

The exciting multi-million-pound boarding house refurbishment project will redefine the RHS boarding experience, combining modern, functional designs with warm, homely atmospheres, whilst preserving the unique characters of the Grade II listed houses.  

The upgrade includes full redecoration, new carpeting, secondary glazing, an upgraded hot water system, energy-efficient heating controls, and a revamped kitchen - designed to improve both comfort and sustainability. A key feature of the transformation is the addition of dedicated study rooms equipped with individual desks for pupils’ prep and independent study, as well as low beds offering ample storage, shelving, and reading lights to create cosy, functional bedrooms. 

The first boarding house, St Vincent, welcomed pupils in the Summer term – however, this is just the beginning! Moving forward, the school will use insights from St Vincent to guide the renovation of all senior boarding houses at RHS. 

In Summer 2025, RHS opened the doors to a dedicated modern learning space at Alton Water to further propel our Centre of Excellence for Sailing. This new facility provides changing rooms, toilets, Sailing classroom and ample space for the RHS fleet of dinghies; ensuring the school continues to provide unparalleled opportunities for sailing excellence.  

In another exciting reveal for Summer 2025, the pitch-side RHS Clubhouse offers a dynamic social space with enhanced facilities for parents, pupils, and staff, to further support our young athletes. This versatile venue serves as a hub for our community, bringing everyone together and providing multifunctional use for various events and gatherings.
