Acceptance into the Sixth Form is normally conditional upon candidates gaining a GCSE average point score of at least 6.0 (where A*=8, A=7, B=6, C=5, D=4), including at least a C grade in GCSE English and Maths.
As part of the admissions process, candidates will discuss A Level option choices with the Head of Sixth Form, and these will be dependent upon their predicted average point score and specific subject criteria.
Following an interview with the Head of Sixth Form and a satisfactory reference from the candidate's current school, a provisional place is then offered. All offers are conditional upon the candidate gaining the necessary grades at GCSE level.
A Sixth Form Information Event for prospective pupils is held in October which will provide an overview of life in the Sixth Form at the Royal Hospital School and how to chose A Level subjects.
Those wishing to apply for a Sixth Form Academic Scholarship should do so by contacting the Admissions Office by the end of October and coming to an Assessment Day held early in November.
Conditional offers of a place are normally made at the beginning of December for entry in the following September.
Applications may be considered outside of these deadlines, subject to availability of places.
Our admission procedure is centralised and applications from overseas pupils should be made to the Admissions Office in the normal way.
Pupils for whom English is not their first language are required to take an English as an Additional Language (EAL) test and a GCSE equivalent Mathematics paper. These may be taken in the pupil's home country under strict examination conditions, subject to prior arrangement.
