A Merlin Mk 2 helicopter from 820 Naval Air Squadron touched down last month at RHS, flown in by former pupil Lt Timothy Wills (RN).
Tim was greeted by his former housemasters from his time in Hawke and Nelson House; Mr Clive Rennison and Lt Col Marc Godfrey respectively. Tim was a skilled musician at school and organ scholar, he also enjoyed sailing and served in the school HM Coastguard unit. On leaving RHS he went on to study medicine at Imperial College London, but shortly after qualifying and working as a junior doctor he decided to change tack and opted for a flying career with the Royal Navy.
Today’s visiting crew took the opportunity to talk with a number of the current sixth form at RHS who are in the CCF and are applying to pursue a military career, and in particular are looking to fly in either the RN, Army or RAF. The cadets found the advice and guidance given of great use and enjoyed the opportunity not only to get close up to the Merlin but to see it put through its paces above the school.
