It is with great pleasure that I bring you the programme for the 2016/2017 concert season at the Royal Hospital School. This year we have selected music from some of the world’s finest musicians as well as performances from the many talented pupils at RHS. Presented against the backdrop of the School’s amazing riverside location and majestic 1930s buildings we know you will be impressed with this year’s musical offerings.
So what is there to look forward to? Well once again we have an incredible array of vocal talent. From the 800-strong massed choir for the Sing Up! Suffolk day, to the exciting projects with the National Youth Choir, and the extremely popular Christmas Concert. Many of us are also eagerly awaiting the performance of Elgar’s monumental work, The Dream of Gerontius, to conclude the concert season.
We have extended our offerings of jazz and rock too with the welcome return of the BBC Big Band, the virtuosic saxophonist Derek Nash and the award-winning Hot Shots Band.
We must not forget what other delights we have in store for you. The annual East of England Organ Day, the launch of Blast Off! Suffolk brass and percussion project, as well as the annual charity gala concert, band concert and school choirs’ concert. There are also a wealth of workshops, masterclasses, lectures and outreach events which will aim to stimulate musicians young and old.
With more than 50 events in the School’s many amazing venues, music at RHS relies on the assistance of a huge range of sponsors, supporters, parents and pupils. We offer our sincere thanks to each and every one, as their invaluable contributions, together with those of the performers, help to make RHS such a unique and special place.
