The House System

There are 11 Houses and each is a thriving community with its own distinct identity. Healthy competition is encouraged between the Houses and there are regular inter-House sports fixtures and leagues, drama and singing competitions, sailing regattas, shooting competitions and other opportunities to score House Points for annual awards.

The resident Housemaster or Housemistress takes overall responsibility for the House assisted on a day to day basis by the Matron. All bedding, uniform and equipment is laundered centrally for boarding pupils and washing machines and tumble dryers are available within each House for laundering personal clothing. Minor medical matters and the supervision of medication are also the responsibility of Matron while all other health concerns are referred to the doctor at the School Health Centre, where there is also a qualified nurse on duty. The School dentist also visits the Health Centre on a regular basis.

Within each House there are leisure facilities that typically include day rooms, computers, table tennis, pool tables, televisions, videos and DVD players and a House library. Pupils also make full use of school facilities during leisure time, particularly the gymnasium, the all-weather surface, tennis courts and swimming pool.

Sailing Academy

Our unique seafaring heritage and outstanding water-sports facilities mean that all pupils have the opportunity to learn to sail and more experienced sailors can sail up to five times a week.
