Introduction

We follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 and subscribe to the Durham University Value Added Measuring Schemes at all levels, allowing tutors to map pupil progress.

In Years 7 and 8 (Key Stage 3) the subjects studied are English, mathematics, science (physics, chemistry and biology), French, optional languages (Latin, Spanish or German), geography, history, design technology, art, music, IT (Information Technology), PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education) and religious studies. In year 7 all pupils study French and they are introduced to Latin, Spanish and German on a carousel basis for the first term. At the end of this ‘taster’, pupils opt to study one of these languages in addition to core French. All pupils take part in PE and swimming and have three games sessions each week.

The curriculum combines traditional academic values with the best of modern educational thinking to provide depth, breadth and balance. We expect hard work and support the pupils with exceptional resources, high quality, enthusiastic teaching and dedicated tutorial support. The working week consists of 38 x 55 min lessons and there are an average of 16 to 20 pupils in a class.

Junior pupils are encouraged to aim high, attain their personal best and, most importantly, to enjoy the challenge.
