Stem Cells; the Wonder Cure?
Jack Cantelo, Year 13,gave a first classpresentationentitled 'Stem Cells, the Wonder Cure? to an interested audience of pupils, some of whom hope to go on to study medicine andothers who were there out of intellectual curiosity. Questions flowed after the discussion with a focus on the ethics of the use of embryonic stem cells.
This presentation was organised by the RHS MedSoc which is asociety for pupils in Year 10and abovewho have an interest in medicine; from studying medicine at University to Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Psychology and Biomedical Science. The Society was started in 2011 to provide information and informative talks for those interested in medical related areas. There are currently 54 members andtwo or threetalks, meetings or debates are arrangedeach term. The Society also aims to help sixth form pupils with preparation for medical examinations such as UKCAT and BMAT.The MedSoc President is Harrison Jefferies, Year13,who hopes to study Medicine at University and specialise in Orthopaedics. He will be presenting at the next MedSoc meeting on "Could Gene Doping produce a New Breed of Athlete?"
