Anglian Schools Cross Country
Once in every five years the Anglian Cross Country Championships are held in Suffolk, and this year was the turn of RHS to host. On the coldest day of the winter so far 600 of the top runners from the Eastern Counties arrived at RHS to brave the frozen course and -15 wind chill factor. The Anglians are a stern test for even the best RHS runners and in the words of Rob Cowper-Coles, Year 9, “this is just another level altogether”. We eagerly wait to hear back from Suffolk Athletics on who has been selected for the Nationals, but all of those pupils who competed did themselves and RHS proud and we are optimistic that we will be represented at English Schools once again this year.
While our runners rightly deserve praise, there were also an army of helpers on the day without whom we could not have shown RHS off at its best. Particular praise must go to the members of the X-Co squad who so enthusiastically marshalled, served drinks, helped at the start pens and stood and parked cars for two hours in the biting cold, and then were so vocal in supporting the members of the team who were competing. Thanks also to the large number of staff who gave up so much of their time in preparation and on the day to ensure that the event was such a success, braving the cold and hovering around the burger van when they could have been elsewhere in the warm!
The following pupils have been presented with their Suffolk jumpers:
Harrison Jeffries
