For boys the main winter sport is rugby and in the Lent term hockey, football and cross country are on offer. In the summer there is cricket, athletics, tennis or sailing. For girls the main winter sports are hockey, netball and cross country and in the summer, rounders, tennis, athletics and sailing.
Some pupils may choose to follow pursuits such as horse riding, squash, canoeing or water-polo. Pupils swim in 5 out of the 6 half terms and the large indoor pool is available for leisure swimming every day. There is also a fully equipped and much used fitness suite and the sports hall offers facilities for basketball, badminton, volleyball, five-a-side soccer and gymnastics.
There are representative teams in most sports at all age levels and fixtures are organised against other independent schools taking place on Saturdays and mid-week. Parents are very welcome to support teams both at home and away. For those pupils who are not members of school teams there are opportunities to participate in inter-house leagues on Saturday afternoons.
PE Programme of Study
In the lower school pupils take part in two weekly physical education lessons and these are taught in class groups. Swimming is included every term and other activities include gymnastics, trampolining, volleyball, basketball, badminton, indoor athletics, tennis and introduction to the multi-gym and for the older pupils circuit training, aerobics, yoga and plyometrics. Pupils can also use the swimming pool for leisure swimming throughout the week and keen swimmers join and train with the school squad.
