The Royal Hospital School is committed to maintaining broad access for talented pupils who would benefit from an outstanding all-round and full education by rewarding talent through a limited number of scholarships, exhibitions and awards (together referred to as ‘Award(s)’) as well as offering financial support through means-tested bursaries (‘Bursary/(ies)’).
Scholarships, Exhibitions and Awards
Scholarships, Exhibitions and Awards reward excellence based on performance at assessment and normally constitute a modest discount on the full fee either for a set period of time or for the entire duration of a pupils’ time at the Royal Hospital School.
These may in some cases be ‘Honorary’, whereby the recipient gains the accolade of being a ‘scholar’ but no monetary discount is given. This is normally the case when a pupil is in receipt of another substantial discount such as the MOD Continuity of Education Allowance or Greenwich Hospital Bursary.

Royal Hospital School Bursaries
Candidates in receipt of an Award may be eligible to apply for additional assistance by way of a means-tested Royal Hospital School bursary should the financial circumstances of the family necessitate it. Bursaries may be awarded in the form of discounts on the boarding or day fee, depending on the financial circumstances of the applicants and subject to the School’s budgetary constraints. For more information, please contact the Admissions Office on 01473 326136 or email@example.com
Families with two children in the School at the same time may receive a 5% discount on the boarding or day fee for the second child. Those with three children in the School are eligible for a further 10% discount on the third child and those with four or more children will receive a 25% discount on the fourth and subsequent siblings, when all are in the School at the same time.
The full boarding fees are discounted for those in receipt of MOD Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA). The MOD insists that eligible personnel make a minimum contribution of 10% towards the school fees, but they will not fund more than the maximum amount that they set each year as boarding school fees are generally far above this figure. As a result, the Royal Hospital School sets the fees for eligible families so that the minimum parental contribution permissible under MOD CEA rules applies. If the candidate is awarded a Scholarship, Exhibition or Award for outstanding performance, this will confer scholar’s privileges and the relevant accolades but will be represented by a non-monetary Honorary Award. For more information contact the Registrar on 01473 326136 or email the Admissions Office.
Greenwich Hospital Bursaries (Seafaring Bursaries)
The Royal Hospital School is part of Greenwich Hospital, a Crown naval charity, one of whose charitable objectives is to provide for the education of the children of seafarers. Children of serving or retired Royal Navy, Royal Marines or WRNS personnel may be eligible for assistance with boarding fees through a limited number of means-tested bursaries or discounts. To be eligible for financial support, normally the child’s parent needs to be serving or has served for a minimum of three years. Other seafaring connections may be considered. Applications must be made directly to Greenwich Hospital between April and December in the year preceding entry. For more information please contact Greenwich Hospital Bursary Section on 0207 396 0140 or visit their website.
